SMOKELESS FUEL
Smokeless fuels are generally manufactured and designed to produce a fuel that, when burned, releases fewer emissions than traditional house coal yet still radiates high levels of heat and leaves little ash at the end of the fire. Since the Clean Air Act of 1956 many areas in the UK are smoke controlled meaning only authorised smokeless fuels are permitted to be burned in domestic fires and stoves. There are many smokeless fuels on the market varying greatly in quality and price. Charlton Whitehouse Fuels only stock the best quality smokeless products so that you, the customer, can get the best result from your open fire or multi-fuel stove. Typically smokeless fuels are formed into small hard briquettes varying in shape with distinguishable markings. When they’re alight they burn with a bright orange glow rather than the yellow flame commonly associated with traditional fires. Smokeless fuels burn for much longer periods of time than traditional house coal and if used in an appliance that regulates airflow they can slumber away through the night until morning.
Smokeless fuels can be enjoyed in all appliances including open fires, multi-fuel stoves, solid fuel cookers and solid fuel central heating systems.
Multi
Multi is our most popular and cheapest smokeless fuel, and for good reason. Multi is a fully authorised fuel that performs very well on open fires, closed appliances including multi-fuel stoves and solid fuel cookers. A fire made with Multi will produce:
- A high-heat output.
- A much longer burn period compared to House Coal
- A clean burning fuel
- A powdery ash reduction.

Homefire ecoal50
Made in the UK by combining 50% renewable plant material with high quality Welsh mined anthracite, we have produced a revolutionary smokeless fuel that burns longer and hotter than house coal, whilst at the same time producing much less smoke and carbon dioxide.
Ecoal50 has been designed for use on open fires and multi-fuel stoves, where its larger hexagonal shape (75 x 40mm) promotes air flow resulting in attractive flames and loads of heat.Ā Thanks to its high and sustained heat output, burning Ecoal50 can work out cheaper than burning house coal or kiln dried firewood, because whilst individual bags are more expensive, you use less for the same heat.
